Background[edit]

It was the second-ever UFC event on free television,[1] with the telecast drawing over two million viewers for a 1.5 overall rating in the United States.[2][3]

With his victory at the event, Nate Quarry became the first The Ultimate Fighter participant to earn a title shot in the organization. He fought for the UFC Middleweight Championship against Rich Franklin at UFC 56.[4]

Nate Marquardt tested positive for nandrolone at the post-fight drug test following his win over Ivan Salaverry.[5]
