Pet Sematary is an upcoming American supernatural horror film directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer and written by Jeff Buhler and David Kajganich. It is the second adaptation of the novel of the same name by Stephen King, after the 1989 film. The film stars Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, and John Lithgow. It is set to be released on April 5, 2019.

Premise[edit]
Pet Sematary follows "a doctor who moves his family out of the big city to the country. There he discovers that they have moved near a pet cemetery that rests on an ancient burial ground, and when his toddler son is killed in an auto accident, he takes the boy's body to the cemetery, where it is resurrected in demonic form."[1]

On March 5, 2010, it was announced that Paramount Pictures was developing a new adaptation of Stephen King's novel Pet Sematary and that Matt Greenberg had been hired to write the screenplay.[2] On October 31, 2013, it was reported that Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Steven Schneider would serve as producers for the production and that Juan Carlos Fresnadillo was in talks to direct.[3]
On October 30, 2017, it was announced that Paramount Pictures had officially greenlit the film which was expected to be directed by Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch from a screenplay by Jeff Buhler and David Kajganich. Producers were slated to include Di Bonaventura, Schneider, and Mark Vahradian.[4]
Casting[edit]
On April 16, 2018, it was announced that Jason Clarke had been cast in the lead role of Louis Creed.[1] On May 4, 2018, it was reported John Lithgow had joined the cast in the role of Jud Crandall.[5] In June 2018, it was announced that Amy Seimetz had been cast in the film's lead female role as Rachel Creed, that Jeté Laurence had been cast as Creed daughter Ellie, and that twins Hugo and Lucas Lavoie had been cast as Creed son Gage.[6][7] On October 8, 2018, it was reported that Obssa Ahmed had been cast as college student Victor Pascow.[8]
Filming[edit]
Principal photography commenced on June 18, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.[9][10] Filming had wrapped by October 2018.[8]
Release[edit]
The film was originally slated to be released on April 19, 2019,[11] but was later brought forward to April 5, 2019.[12] On October 10, 2018, the film's first trailer was released[13] and it was followed by a 3D photo posted November 1, 2018 through Facebook's 3D photo function.[14]
